Mimi Report

Daniel and Jenni and Granton have been iced in this week. No school means no access to the computer. They did manage to get Granton to his Bolivar appointment to get his blood checked today. I am passing the report on for them. Granton's Red blood count was 8.1. This is just a tiny improvement but little bits can add up over time. While you are praying for his RBC to go up maybe you could remember this too. Every once in a while Granton is having a night long bout of vomiting and diareah. After a missreable night he gets up in the morning feeling fine. Then a few days later it happens again. We don't know what causes this but we do know God answers prayer.

"Pae"

Okay, this is the scoop on Granton’s RBC count. It is still exactly 7.8. This is where it has been stuck for quite awhile now. The good news is still that it is stable. The doctor said that Granton’s body is picking up the slack in other areas. If they wanted to they could bring Granton’s RBC count up but they want to leave well enough alone. This has happened in other SCID’s patients before and they think the count will slowly improve. Granton seems to be doing alright. They explained that his body is learning how to work together again. It would be better if Granon body figures out how to balance itself on its own. If they mess with something, like the RBC count, it will probably throw something else out of whack. It is better for his body to do it. There was not any other big news from the check up other than he did weigh a little more. I remember when his weight was stuck and it seemed like he would never get bigger. We have learned to just sit back and let God work in his time. We just keep praying and we thank you for doing the same. Granton goes back to KC in two weeks and he is checked in Bolivar next week. One thing that is pretty cool is when the doctors and nurses were looking over Granton he put his hands together and said “pae” which is his way of saying pray. I think the little man gives us all some pretty good advice. Take Care and God Bless

Real quick

Real quick, I just want to ask everyone to pray for Granton's red blood cell count. He has been stuck at 7.8 and he gets tested tomorrow at KC. We would love to see this number go up. Thank you and we will all keep looking up.

There were a few requests for a video recently so we took this over the weekend. 

So I know it has been a while since we have added any new pictures. So I hope no one minds that this one was taken a month or so ago. But I didn't think that everyone had seen it and this one always makes me smile.

Aunt Neese

I don’t have much time to post. I just wanted to thank everyone who prayed for Granton to get over his latest hurdle. He is doing much better. He is happy, eating fine and keeping everything down. Jenni said, he has just started a new thing today. She calls it his lizard act. He is crawling around sticking his tongue in and out making shla shla shla sounds. He must feel fine. We always appreciate all the prayers.

Long night

Mr. Granton had a long night. We woke up to the sound of him coughing and puking at about 1:30. We don’t know if it is food poisoning or the stomach flue. I feel bad for the little man. He doesn’t even complain. He just pukes on himself and goes back to sleep. I was holding him when he had the dry heaves. Jenny and I take turns taking care of him each night. I usually get the bad shift but last night was hers. They both had it pretty rough. When these things happen I have to really take control of my mind. Those ugly questions try to slip in my head. How could he be sick when we watch him so much? Does he have enough white blood cells to fight this? Is he loosing his engraftment? Does his immune system work? The questions flooded in and this was the answer I came up with: For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and a sound. mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) I closed my eyes and went to sleep. Granton and Jenni got some sleep also and he seems to be doing better this morning. Please pray for him and I will try to keep you posted.

Granton had a trip to KC yesterday. His RBC count is still 7.8 on the dot. It needs to be higher but is appears to be stable. The kid has finally toped the 20 lbs mark which is pretty cool. This is funny because I thought he grew overnight yesterday. We have also noticed Granton getting more vocal. He understands more of what we say also. Jenni has been teaching him hand signs so he communicates with us better as well. The kid loves our attention. He better enjoy it now because little sister is on her way and she is going to rock his world! Other than that, we really don’t have any news. Of course please keep praying the little man does not catch anything this winter. Thank you so much.

Not alone

First things first, let me tell you about Granton’s RBC count. Last week on Friday Granton’s first test result showed his count at 7.5 and the Doctors wanted to make sure so they took it again and it was 7.1. Granton went back on Monday and it was 7.4. He was tested here in Bolivar yesterday and this new number is 7.8. I believe they would like it around 12 but the good news is it seams to be stable and it might even be slowly improving. Please keep praying. Now I would like to recognize and thank all the new people who have visited our Blog. Granton’s story in the Kansas City Star was picked up by many other newspapers around the country. As a result we have received some wonderful comments. My heart goes out to all the people who have posted and experienced such trying times. Thank you for sharing. We feel like we have a connection with you. Jenni and I learned in the hospital that anyone can find someone worse off than themselves. This was pretty effective in keeping us from having a pity party. We know that we are not alone and we are thankful for all the connections we have made with others. My heart truly pours out to others who have had these experiences. I am sure I would have had a much more shallow response before our ordeal began. It is amazing how much God has used Granton to change my way of thinking and my attitude on so many levels. This is just one more area. Anyway thank you again for sharing.

Kid's these days

Hey, I have had many people ask me about Granton’s Red Blood Cell count so I will share what I have learned. I just got of the phone with the hospital and they gave me the report. I have not been able to talk to Jenni yet. I think she may have the phone turned off. Anyway, Granton’s RBC count did not go up or down. This was good enough for him to come home but they are still trying to find out what is destroying his red blood cells. He will be tested again on Thursday at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar with our family doctor. Please keep praying for the little guy. We would like to see his RBC count go up. I have been telling him to make more red blood cells so he can stay at home. Now I guess I have to tell him to stop destroying the cells he has already made. Kid’s these days, we have spell everything out for them. Again, thank you all for praying for our little man.

Through the Grapevine

Granton had his check up today. As is usual we are having computer troubles so mom talked to Daniel then called me to post for them. Anyway, I hope this is all accurate as it has been passed down several times.
There were several good things from the appointment. Granton's weight is up a little more. I guess Christmas hit him where it hit most of us. Ha Ha. He went from 19.5 to 19.8 pounds. Granton is taller as well and is now 30.25 inches tall. Also, an answer to prayer, the rash is gone. Granton is also off all of his drugs except hydrocortizone, which is the replacement for the steriods he was taken off of a while ago. They ran a lot of labs again and all were good except one.
This brings us to our new prayer request. Granton's Red blood count is 7. Just to give you some perspective 12 is good number and 10 would be accectable. They are calling this Autoimmune Hemolitic Anemia. However, they do not think it is because of the donor cells. Probably it is either drug induced or post viral. Both of those are fixable problems.
Granotn goes back Monday for another check up. If the Red Blood count dorps he will have to stay the night, if it is below 5 will have to have transfusion. If it is as the doctors are thinking either form the virus or the drugs it should go up. He was taken off the drugs and should be getting over the virus.
Please pray that whatever the cause this will be better by Monday.

Enjoying Christmas break

Mr. Granton has been enjoying lots of company lately. We have had family come in quite a bit over the Christmas break. He loves to show off. The kid is full of grins and enjoys dancing to any tune. He likes to tell everyone what a cow says and has started pointing at different animals as we ask him “Where is the sheep? Where is the pig? and so on and so own.” The last few nights he has been staying in his room all night. This has taken a little convincing on our part at first but I think it might stick now. I love it when he wakes up in the morning. I have been getting him and bringing him in to our room. He is all smiles once he is with us. In fact, this morning I wanted him to hurry up and wake so we could play. We have been lounging around in the morning enjoying his company. I think this will be what I miss most when Christmas break is over. I like to be at the school by 7:00 and he probably won’t wake up before I leave. Even if he does, I won’t have time to play with him. Jenni and Granton won’t get to lounge around tomorrow. He has an appointment in KC. They will test him for all kinds of stuff. Please pray for great test results. Speaking of his medical stuff, his rash is gone. Praise the Lord. Now he has been fighting a cough. His lungs were damaged so much by the PCP and RSV we want to keep them as clear from any gunk. Thank you all for your prayers and have a happy new year.
